      <image:caption>In Nigeria we learnt about adolescents using “mediators” to facilitate difficult conversations with their parents. A mediator is usually another adult who is either a part of the family or another adult close to the adolescents such as a teacher, coach, mentor or neighbor and is perceived to be wiser and objective than parents by the adolescent. Adolescents trust these adults to give good advice which will help them do better in life, as well as empathize with them. Adolescents share fashion, music and other trend related information with their close friends but they hesitate to talk to them about SRH issues.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>In India, adolescent rarely have any conversation with their parents around SRH.  The go to source for advice for adolescents in India are usually one or two closest friends and older adults in the family like sisters, brothers and sister-in laws. A common adult intervention was from community mobilisers/ community health workers/ SRH trainers who the parents trust enough to talk about SRH issues with their kids. Parents found them trustworthy to delegate the responsibility of having SRH conversations with their children.</image:caption>

SRH is not a priority for most adolescents on day to day basis. •Adolescents in Nigeria and India aspire for good quality education, career and life, making it a common concern and priority for them. •We also found adolescents to be aware of sexual activity amongst peers, primarily through word of mouth channels which may or may not provide accurate information. •For influencers like parents, platforms that deliver SRH information within the framework of education was acceptable. Providers of SRH content like NGOs, engaged in trust building activities with influencers to gain consent for adolescents to engage with SRH issues.</image:caption>

Adolescents don’t seek SRH information from reliable sources because of the stigma associated with showing interest in sex related topics. In India and Nigeria, comedy was a common format for content engagement for adolescents and adults. We found that it was easier for adolescents and adults to consume content related to topics like sex in this format. Comedy has become a way to create comfort around difficult subjects and provide a framework where SRH conversations can be introduced.</image:caption>

For adolescent boys in India and Nigeria, porn was a common source of ‘education’ about girls’ bodies, sexual intercourse etc. Vidmate, YouTube, Google are sources from where they find, download and share porn. Adolescents mentioned that even if they are aware of other close adolescent friends in their social circles being sexually active, it is hard to understand the details of physical intimacy.</image:caption>

Parents worry about adolescents getting over-exposed to SRH topics. Parents in India and Nigeria want their kids to learn about SRH but they struggle to introduce SRH conversation with their children (and don’t want to be the ones to do it) because: 1. They don’t know how to prepare for and introduce the topic 2. They think they will encourage their children to become sexually active with the new found information. 3.
